Accessibility Champion Program Scout Badge

Accessibility Guides will move deeper into accessibility standards and guidelines and become subject-matter experts for their teams. They will learn more about the assistive technology tools used by people with disabilities and how to guide their teams to develop accessible content, design for accessible user experiences, and implement accessible code. Accessibility Guides will learn how current and emerging technologies are used to support improved access. In addition, advanced accessibility testing techniques are introduced at the Guide level.

Benefits of Earning the Guide Badge

  • Be seen as an accessibility leader within the Pearson community, capable of guiding others on accessibility implementation.
  • Obtain a high-level of technical accessibility expertise related to accessibility guidelines and specifications and how Pearson is implementing them.

  • Requirements for Earning a Guide Badge

    Prerequisite:

    Must complete all requirements for the Explorer Badge and the Scout Badge. There are 6 courses and quizzes for the Explorer Badge and 10 courses and quizzes for the Scout Badge .

    10 Guide Courses

    After earning your Explorer Badge and Scout Badge, you must complete a total of 10 courses to earn the Guide badge. You will choose all 10 courses as part of your "Personalized Learning Journey."

    10 Personalized Learning Journey Courses

    When choosing courses for your Personalized Learning Journey, you must choose courses that have not already been applied to a previous badge. If a course requires prerequisite skills, it will be noted in the course description.

    1. One course must be selected from "Series 4: Functional Use of Assistive Technology."
    2. Three courses must be selected from "Series 2: Accessible Design & Development."
    3. Two courses must be chosen from any of the available Series.
    4. Four courses can be chosen from any available Series or from the list of Elective Courses.

    Tracking Completed Courses

    Courses completed through the Accessibility Champion Program will be tracked through your personal Accessibility Champion Status page on the Accessibility for Assessments website. Through this page, you will be able to manage your personal profile, track the courses you have completed, and choose pre-recorded courses for the Personalized Learning Journey component of the badge.

    After Earning the Guide Badge

  • A certificate will be emailed to you
  • A recognition message will be sent to your manager
  • A graphics file of the Guide Badge will be sent to you to use on personal social media sites and other communications.
  • Annual Requirements for Maintaining the Guide Badge

    Once you have completed the required courses and obtained your Guide Badge, the badge is good for 1 year:

    Once you have completed the required courses and obtained your Explorer Badge, the badge is good for 1 year:

  • If you earn your badge between January 1st and June 30th, the badge will be good until June 30th of the next year.
  • If you earn your badge between July 1st and December 31st, your badge will be good until December 31st of the following year.
  • You only need to take two hours of accessibility training per year to maintain your Guide badge.
