Accessibility Champion Program Scout Badge

Accessibility Scouts will build upon the knowledge learned as an Explorer. At this level Scouts move from understanding basic accessibility concepts to implementing accessibility guidelines. They will learn about basic testing tools, assistive technology, and how to document accessibility issues. Scouts will show others on their team how to implement accessible solutions by collaborating with the Accessibility Team to interpret accessibility testing results, plan for accessibility, and remove barriers.

  • Requirements for Earning a Scout Badge

    Prerequisite:

    Must complete all requirements for the Explorer Badge . This includes 6 courses and their quizzes.

    10 Scout Courses

    After earning your Explorer Badge, you must complete a total of 10 courses to earn the Scout badge. These 10 courses are made of up of "Assigned Courses" and courses you choose as part of your "Personalized Learning Journey."

    2. Introduction to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
    3. Introduction to Accessibility Testing
    4. Integrating Pearson's Accessibility Policy into Workflows: Analyzing an Accessibility Issues Report
    5. Introduction to the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Site
    5 Personalized Learning Journey Courses

    When choosing courses for your Personalized Learning Journey, you must choose courses that have not already been applied to a previous badge. If a course requires prerequisite skills, it will be noted in the course description.

    1. One course must be selected from "Series 4: Functional Use of Assistive Technology."
    2. Four courses can be chosen from any available Series or from the list of Elective Courses.

    Tracking Completed Courses

    Courses completed through the Accessibility Champion Program will be tracked through your personal Accessibility Champion Status page on the Accessibility for Assessments website. Through this page, you will be able to manage your personal profile, track the courses you have completed, and choose pre-recorded courses for the Personalized Learning Journey component of the badge.

    After Earning the Scout Badge

  • A certificate will be emailed to you
  • A recognition message will be sent to your manager
  • A graphics file of the Scout Badge will be sent to you to use on personal social media sites and other communications.
  • An email will be sent to you asking if you want to maintain your Scout badge or begin working on your Guide badge. If you choose to begin working on your Guide badge, instructions will be provided for how to begin that journey.
  • Annual Requirements for Maintaining the Scout Badge

    Once you have completed the required courses and obtained your Explorer Badge, the badge is good for 1 year:

  • If you earn your badge between January 1st and June 30th, the badge will be good until June 30th of the next year.
  • If you earn your badge between July 1st and December 31st, your badge will be good until December 31st of the following year.
  • If you choose to remain at the Explorer level, you only need to take two hours of accessibility training per year to maintain the badge and have it renewed for another year.

    If you choose to start taking courses to earn your Scout badge and take 2 hours or more each year of training as outlined for that badge, you will automatically maintain your Explorer badge until you have earned your Scout badge.
